Barbara Curtis


Role: Assistant Treasurer

Barbara was elected to the BPW in 2023. She has been a resident of Lewes since 2010, moving here with her husband Roger Heffernan after selling their vacation house in Prime Hook. Barbara grew up in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. She returned to Pennsylvania for college, earning a BA in Philosophy from Rosemont College and an MS in Environmental Science & Engineering from Drexel University.

Barbara has over 40 years of corporate environmental management experience in the specialty chemicals, electronics, pollution control and precious metals industries. She worked for manufacturing multinationals Johnson Matthey, General Instrument and General Semiconductor, travelling to their locations throughout the US, as well as to Mexico, Europe, South Africa and Taiwan. She managed environmental remediation projects and environmental due diligence for real estate and merger transactions. She developed environmental programs, policies, and best management practices. During most of her career Barbara’s home base was in southeastern Pennsylvania; she transitioned to working from home after moving to Lewes, then retired in 2022.

Barbara serves on the Board of Trustees for her neighborhood HOA. She is a member of the BPW’s Mitigation Team and the Planning Commission’s Environment Team.
