We’re pleased to present to you this year’s Annual Quality Water Report. This report is designed to inform you about the quality water and services we deliver to you every day. Our constant goal is to provide you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. We want you to understand the efforts we make to continually improve the water treatment process and protect our water resources. We are committed to ensuring the quality of your water. Our water source is groundwater. We have five wells that draw from the Columbia Aquifer.

The Division of Public Health in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has conducted a source water assessment. If you are interested in reviewing the assessment, please contact Board of Public Works @ 302-645-6228 regarding how to obtain a copy. Or go on-line at delawaresourcewater.org.

We are pleased to report that our drinking water meets federal and state requirements.

If you have any questions about this report or concerning your water utility, please contact 302-645-6228. We want our valued customers to be informed about their water utility. If you want to learn more, please attend any of our regularly scheduled meetings. They are usually held on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at the City Hall, 114 East Third Street. Please check our website to confirm at https://www.lewesbpwde.gov/

MCLMCL: Maximum Contaminant Level: The highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology.
MRLMRL: Minimum Reporting Level: the lowest concentration of a contaminant that certified laboratories are permitted to report
SMCLSMCL: Suggested Maximum Contaminant Level for aesthetic contaminants.
TTTT: Treatment Technique: A required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water.
ALAL: Action Level: The concentration of a contaminant which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements which a water system must follow.
MRDLGMRDLG: Maximum residual disinfection level goal. The level of a drinking water disinfectant below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MRDLGs do not reflect the benefits of the use of disinfectants to control microbial contaminants.
MRDLMRDL: Maximum residual disinfectant level. The highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water. There is convincing evidence that addition of a disinfectant is necessary for control of microbial contaminants.
NTUNephelometric Turbidity Unit.  A measure of the clarity of water. Turbidity in excess of 5 NTU is just noticeable to the average person.
